Stories from a life being lived.
Fatherhood, family, faith, the occasional dumpster fire, and everything in between. Some days there's plenty to say. Other days, life gets in the way of writing about it.
Either way, pull up a chair. There's always another story.

Because He Could
We never demanded straight As. He decided what he wanted, saw what he was capable of, and went after it. Yesterday, I got to sit in a gym and watch someone recognize him for it.
Two Pieces of Paper
One piece of paper said detention. The other was an invitation to Junior Beta Club. Same kid. Same day. Both true. Neither one the whole story.
After They Left
We spent most of the summer preparing them for this morning. Then the backpacks went on, the van pulled away, and suddenly the house sounded different. Sometimes parenting means preparing our children to walk through the next door, then sitting still long enough to realize they were ready.
Down the Hall
Every once in a while, I step away from work and look down the hall. There she is with a blanket, a cup of tea, the cat nearby, and another lesson on the screen. Somehow my daughter looks so grown up and so small at exactly the same time.
The Last Full Week
I have a habit of putting something on the horizon and marching toward it. This week, I caught myself looking all the way toward next summer while standing inside the last full week of this one. Maybe before we prepare for what's next, we should finish living where we are.
What Day Is It?
Some weeks refuse to happen in the right order. The plans move, the days blur together, and Friday arrives before you understand where Tuesday went. Then you look around and realize that while you were busy losing track of the days, everyone kept moving forward.
Before the Bell
Summer does not end all at once. It fades into school meetings, nervous questions, backpacks by the door, and one more swim at the lake. This year, each of our children is stepping into a different season, and all I can do is soften my voice, walk beside them, and remind them they are ready.
The Evening Coffee
Somewhere over the past few weeks, my oldest son decided we needed a ritual of our own. Every evening he turns on my computers, makes me a cup of coffee, and waits. What began as a simple act of kindness became a reminder that the culture of a family is eventually carried by the children themselves.
Quiet Rooms and Resting Wings
The rooms are finished. The kids are at camp. The house is finally quiet. Sometimes the work isn't about paint, furniture, or projects. Sometimes it's about creating space for the people you love to rest, grow, and breathe.
Making Room
Two new beds. Fresh paint. Another trip to Richmond. A violin recital on the horizon. Sometimes parenting is simply making room for your children to become who they're meant to be.
Between Seasons
A final baseball game. A son who walked away. Stream assets rebuilt from scratch. Chicks moved outside. Rooms changing. Sometimes life doesn't announce a new season. It simply arrives while you're busy living the last one.
Fourteen
Fourteen years ago, she changed everything.
Stronger. Braver. More herself every day.
And somehow, her smile still makes everything better.
Some seasons arrive beautiful and burdensome at the same time.
Spring arrived with beauty and burden. Pollen in the air, missed practices, growing kids, and the quiet responsibility of leading a family through it all.
Packed Bag
A baseball bag sat on a chair all day.
Packed. Ready. Waiting.
Sometimes the most important moment in a house isn’t the big thing coming next. It’s the quiet pride sitting in the room already.
Baseball ended Sunday night, and I thought the calendar might finally exhale. Instead, life simply redistributed itself. Work, school, family, and even CranioDad were already waiting to fill the space.
